Tatars in World History

April 7-8, 2017 the Sh.Marjani Institute of History of the Tatarstan Science Academy in cooperation with Oxford University will hold an international conference "Tatars in World History" in Oxford (Great Britain).

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Alexander Yakovenko is expected to address the conference.

The conference will host a presentation of the fundamental scientific work of the Sh.Marjani Institute of History published jointly with partners from Oxford University, "The Golden Horde in World History", translated into English.

The chief editor of this international scientific project, director of the Sh.Marjani Institute of History, academician, doctor of historical sciences Rafael Khakimov, will address the participants of the conference with a welcoming speech.

From Oxford University a speech will make by a British historian, an expert on early medieval Russia, the Caucasus and Byzantium, Professor Jonathan Shepard, who is recognized by the world academic community as the leading authority on Byzantine studies and the history of Kievan Rus. His field of research covers the history of the early Kiev period, Byzantine-Khazar and Russian-Polovtsian relations.

"The Golden Horde in World History" was published in January this year in Russian and received a wide scientific and public response. The edition of the monograph was sold almost immediately after its official publication.
